Marc + Zanna Engagement: Part 1

Marc and Zanna are such a fun couple to hang out with, and really, even though I just spent two hours with them “working,” it was such a pleasant time, that it was easy to forget that this is what I do for a living. These two are so chill and easy going that it was almost too easy to work with them. I’d say, “let’s go check out that spot,” and they’d say, “sure, that looks cool.” Then I would say, “let’s go climb up that building and see what we can find, ” and they were like, “cool, that would rock!” (no…we didn’t climb any buildings…though we really wanted to!)

Really they were such a kick in the pants. We spent a lot of time laughing, and they were fantastic sports about posing and running around. In fact, we walked through parts of Tacoma that I had never been in search of some cool cobblestone roadways at their suggestion. Now, first off, there are some really cool old messed up buildings in Tacoma. Second off, when you see the same car drive by several times in the middle of the day in a rather empty part of town you begin to wonder if they are looking to sell you something. Definitely not where you want to be at night, but some really cool places to shoot on a warm sunny Sunday! This is a two part post because I have too many images I’d like to share from the day to do it in just one.

As promised, here a few more images from the Wedding that I shot down in Napa, CA (see the first post here). It was a great time and it was such a wonderful opportunity to be in a place that I had never been, nor had ever planned to go. Now that I’ve been I can’t wait to make it down there again. The images featured here are taken from two main locations. The first is at Robert Biale Vineyards, which is one of the area’s best zinfandel producers. Their wine was amazing! If you’re down there, be sure to visit. The second location, where the most of the day was spent was at Nicholson Ranch, a picturesque vineyard on a large hillside. During the rainy season it looks like you’re in the Scottish Highlands. The venue seems built to host small wedding parties, and if you are looking for an amazing destination wedding spot, I recommend giving them a call.

Vendor Spotlight: Indulge Cupcakes

On valentines day, Sarah and Ainsley and I decided to stop by Indulge to get a cupcake. This was not my first Indulge experience, since we had ordered the cupcakes we did for Ainsley’s first birthday from them. This was my first trip to their retail location, which is now located in Sumner WA. The shop is small and very welcoming. You come in and see their cupcake display on the right and the espresso bar directly ahead. Behind the counter is a door with a curtain, behind which you can hear people buisly making the next batch of their fantastic cupcakes. To the left is a great common area with a nice coffee table and comfortable couch. We were treated to great cupcakes, and I got a mocha, and the espresso was well done. All in all, a great experience

Here’s the deal: they do weddings! I got a chance to talk with one of the owners, and from what he was saying about pricing, the ability to customize, and the nearly non-existant fee for delivery, if you are interested in cupcakes for your wedding, these guys are worth checking out. And, I can personally vouch for their wares: SO GOOD!!

Family Picture

So I have been working on getting a new family blog off the ground. We have been using blogger as our platform since Ainsley was born, and frankly, I am tired of it. Blogger is great, and free, and accessible. But…it sucks at pictures. I know, there are ways to tweak it, but having used it at one time as a photo-blog, I know first hand that it is simply not built as an image displaying option. I have been more than thrilled with my current blogging platform, and since I am allowed two installs of the code, I figured that we ought to do the family blog up right. I feature a lot of images of my daughter here, and between you and me, I think you know why (SHE IS SO DARN CUTE). But the new blog will give my wife Sarah a great place to put more of her photographical work, and to share her own thoughts about this crazy thing called life.

I look forward to having a place that we can feature more of our family focused images (not that I expect to leave off sharing those here), as well as our thoughts and joys and struggles as we walk down this road of being a Photography family in 2010. I have spent the week editing the wedding I shot mid January down in Napa California. I wish I could say that it was “Sunny California,” but alas, they do have a rainy season and I was there for it. But…that turned out to be a good thing. I don’t mind overcast at all, and the landscape, instead of being the “golden” color it is 90% of the time, was a lush green. It was a really cool spot, with parts that looked like pictures of the Highlands. It’s still a little surreal to think that I got to go and spend the weekend in the heart of American wine country. These shots are just a few that I love from the portrait session before the wedding. I will post more shots in the coming week.

Saturday in Seattle: Personal

I have been sick for like 5 days. Last Wednesday night my usual sinus related cold hit, and I was done. I didn’t start recovering until Saturday, which was good, because for the first part of the day it was gorgeous! We were out looking for camera bags, because I have needed a lens bag to compliment what I already have, and the only place I know that I can actually play around with Think Tank bags is Glazers in downtown Seattle. So all three of us went up to the city to putz around in a camera store for an hour. Afterwards we decided that we couldn’t make a trip up to Seattle without spinning by Red Mill Burgers for my absolute favorite burger in the universe! This was Ainsley’s first Red Mill encounter and it was a swimming success.

So this is me…and these shots were taken by my wonderful wife Sarah. She has just started getting excited about photography, and these are the fruit of that excitement. How’d she do?
