Saturday I had the privilege to be shooting a wedding in a really neat location. I will, of course post images from that wedding in the future, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about the folks that I got to work with “behind the scenes.” The first three shots are of Chris York, a great vidiographer who I just recently met. Chris is a really cool guy: laid back, intelligent, and creative. He also knows his stuff. While eating lunch we got to talking shop about cameras etc, and not only did he know what I was talking about, he started talking about stuff that I know only just a little bit about. A few weeks back I was in a wedding of some close friends, and Chris was along doing the video. I noticed right away his professional presence, and chill attitude. If you are looking for a videographer, you should definitely check him out!

The next three images are those of good friends Gabriel and Jaci Van Wyhe. Sarah and I have been friends with these guys for about a decade, and even when we were out in Massachusetts we maintained the relationship, and would make a point to visit them when we were back in town. Gabe and I both started our photography businesses at the same time, and he has been a constant sounding board for ideas, rants about the industry, and fellow commiserator when things got difficult. He has also been there to celebrate in our successes and joys as we work in this incredible field. He is a great photographer, and a wonderful friend to me. He and Jaci are a husband and wife team of photographers based in the grater Tacoma area, and together they are doing some fantastic work.

Forth of July

Yesterday I got to spend some time with my extended family over in Kingston WA. The community there has the oldest Fourth of July parade west of the Mississippi. It’s a modest parade, with Police, Politicians, Car and Bike Clubs, Local organizations etc. They throw a lot of candy. I took my LensBaby along, and decided to shoot most of the parade with that figuring that it would add to the vintage feel of the day. I really like the look that this gives me. Later we watched the fireworks in the bay. Such a rewarding day. AND…by the time we got home pretty much all the local fireworks were done. Ah blessed sleep!

Kyle + Holly: Engagement Teaser

Sunday evening I drove up to the University of Washington campus for a wonderful photo shoot with Kyle and Holly. Right out of the gate two things became really obvious. First…they were a little nervous. Second…they were so so fun. Their smiles and laughter came so easily. They were both warm and personable. And lets be honest: how eager are most of us to subject ourselves to two hours of shooting. About 3 minuets into the shoot we were having such a good time. They looked great and I got amazing images. I will post more of these in the future, but I wanted to put up a sample shot.

Megan’s Second Birthday

Occasionally, I have the opportunity to take tons of pictures of kids! I have a lot of opportunity with Ainsley, but she has become really used to the camera, and ignores my attempts to get her to do cute stuff on command. Friend’s children have not built up this amazing defense mechanism. It is also really rewarding to nail shots of kids just running around being kids. One other thing I love is that their parents are usually really thrilled that they just had someone take some great shots of their children for free. Here are a few highlights from the day.

I thought I was going above and beyond by agreeing to read to them. At one point there were like 5 kids all huddled around. It turns out that they suckered my wife two weeks ago at the last party that I missed because I was shooting in Napa.

Earlier this month I got to go spend some time with family, as kind of a catch up visit since we missed them around Christmas. My sister’s boyfriend came along for the visit and I figured that I would subject him to my camera. It was fun coaxing the shot that I was looking for out of him: he is a great musician and I wanted to get him a great shot for any promo stuff he might want to do in the future.

Annemarie: Senior Portrait

Meet Annemarie. She is a senior. She also happens to be my sister. She also happens to be a fantastic budding photographer. We got to go out (in mid August….I know, I know) and run around and make some great pictures. The only problem with this shoot was that I have too many that I like. This image will serve as a teaser. I hope to be finished very soon on these. Cheers
